PARENTAL CARE NURSERY AND PRIMARY SCHOOL BUSHENYI STUN OUR LADY OF GOOD COUNSEL TO EMERGE ANKOLE REGION NDC CHAMPIONS FOR THE THIRD TIME IN A ROW.
National Debate Council (NDC), a premier debate and speech organization in Uganda helps youngsters to think critically, read widely in order to broaden and deepen their insight into the critical issues of today. This, it has achieved by organizing regional and national debate and speech championships on annual basis.
This years Ankole Region championship that ran under the theme, “Think, Speak, Act” was hosted by Mbarara High School ‘CHAAPA’ in Mbarara City. The championship that saw Parental Care Nursery and Primary School Bushenyi triumph as winners of junior debate category for the third time in a row had attracted four primary schools namely; Parental Care Nursery and Primary School Bushenyi, Bishop Stuart Demonstration Primary School, Our Lady of Good Counsel Primary School Rukungiri and Kashozi Day and Boarding Primary School and thirteen secondary schools. These included, Mbarara High School (Hosts), Revival Girls’ High School, Alliance High School Ibanda, Citizens’ Secondary School Ibanda, Ishongorero Secondary School, Equatorial College, Kibatsi Secondary School, Shuuku Vocational among others. By the end of the day, the championship saw schools and individuals match with medals and trophies following their displays. For both Senior and Junior categories, participants competed in Story telling, News Anchoring, Poetry, Debate and public speaking.
In his remarks, the tournament director appreciated Mbarara High School for accepting to host this year’s Ankole Region championship. He said that in debate there is no losing because if when you don’t move away with trophy, you learn.
Parental Care Nursery and Primary School Bushenyi emerged winners after overcoming Our Lady of Good Counsel Primary School Rukungiri on a unanimous decision from all the seven judges. The motion for the finals was, “Schools should be legally forced to publish a public account of all fine money collected from pupils”.
Also, Ainembabazi Angel Tracy, Ninkusiima Lea and Ashaba Isaiah all from Parental Care Nursery and Primary School Bushenyi were awarded for being the third, second and best overall speakers respectively.

Also, Beran Akandwanaho of Parental Care Nursery and Primary School Bushenyi emerged the winner of poetry under Junior category.
The School Director Mr. Trevor Yebazamukama expressed his happiness and attributed the win to the training, concentration and focus always displayed by pupils.
In the senior category, Revival Girls’ High School overcame Mbarara High School to be declared debate winners.
Parental Care Nursery and Primary School Bushenyi and Revival Girls’ High School will now represent Ankole Region at the NDC National championship slated for December of this year.
