TWO PUPILS OF PARENTAL CARE NURSERY AND PRIMARY SCHOOL BUSHENYI TO REPRESENT UGANDA IN NAIROBI KENYA AT THE INTERNATIONAL SCRABBLE CHAMPIONSHIP.

With the intention of grooming and mentoring future stars in different fields, the Ministry of Education and Sports continues to empower schools in their endeavors to create a strong future for the learners.

In support of these endeavors, the Scrabble Association of Uganda (SAU) organized all schools scrabble tournament that took place on 27th June, 2026 at Gayaza Junior School in Wakiso District under the theme, “Bringing Scrabble in schools”.

The championship that attracted over 10 schools saw individuals walk away with awards and gift hampers at the end of the day from various sponsors that included Chapa General enterprises Ltd, Sumz foods, among others.

According to the organizers, the two best players from the two categories; senior and junior will be sponsored to represent Uganda at the International Scrabble championship slated to take place in August 2026 in Nairobi Kenya.

As it’s always said that a chance favors a prepared mind, Parental Care Nursery and Primary School Bushenyi was well positioned to grab the opportunity that will leave two of it’s team members with a full paid sponsorship from SAU to represent Uganda in Nairobi Kenya.

The representatives were determined by the scores each individual obtained from the six rounds.

Ethan Aarush Matsiko and Atuhaire Tricia all of Parental Care Nursery and Primary School Bushenyi emerged the best players from the Junior category as well as the Most Valuable Players (MVPs) of the tournament.

‎Dorian Nduhuura, the ED Future Stars remarked that the program aims at giving every child an opportunity to shine by discovering their natural abilities; giving an example of Joseph Sebatindila a 12yr old who is the best Table Tennis Player in the country. Dorian says that scrabble is a game that needs young and free flowing mind. “By engaging these pupils at this age will ensure that the future of sports is safeguarded”. He said.

The Chief Guest Mr. Brian Ssenyonga; Sports Officer Wakiso District appreciated the hosts for allowing the event in their school despite being exposed to ebola risk. ‎‎He appreciated the coaches and schools for dedicating their time and resources for the good of the championship and the future of sports.

At this championship, Gold, Silver and bronze medalists all came from Parental Care Nursery and Primary School Bushenyi.

Parental Care Nursery and Primary School Bushenyi was in particular hailed for showing up on big stages an achievement that is rare in private schools. “Parental Care Nursery and Primary School Bushenyi has continued to promote exposure and holistic learning to it’s pupils. What this school is doing benefits us all because it does it for Uganda, East Africa, Africa and the world at large”. Remarked Mr. Ssenyonga.

To take you back, Atuhaire Tricia is set to represent Africa in the spelling bee competitions due to take place in November 2026 in Czech Republic.

Also, Parental Care Nursery and Primary School Bushenyi will be representing Africa in debate and speech Championship late this year the US.

ABOUT SCRABBLE CHAMPIONSHIP:

The championship was organized to boost confidence, grammar and instil self belief in learners at a young age.

The game that is played by two to four players is developed by building games in either vertical or horizontal lines joining from the already formed words.

Tiles are replaces to maintain the required number (7) of tiles on the rack.

The words are then summed up considering the letter score. Bingos, triple word score, double word score, triple letter score and double letter score also contribute to the final score.
