WESTERN REGION ENJUBA SPELLING BEE COMPETITIONS 2026 CONCLUDED AS PARENTAL CARE NURSERY AND PRIMARY SCHOOL BUSHENYI SCOOP MAJOR AWARDS AND TROPHIES.

For over 10 years, the National Spelling Bee has ignited a passsion for reading in millions of children, equipping them with vital 21st century skills, including critical thinking, teamwork, and confidence. Most notably, 90% of Spelling Bee participants have completed primary school and joined secondary school, contributing to an 11% reduction in the national dropout rate. The spelling bee starts at school level as a tool teachers use to introduce concepts, then goes to the district competitions and climaxes with the nationals.
The top three winners at the national level go on the African Spelling Bee, a continental education event rotated around countries.

Built on the theme, “See the world differently” and hosted at St. Mukasa Preparatory Seminary Mushanga, the Western Region Enjuba Spelling Bee competitions attracted five schools from the districts of Mbarara, Sheema and Bushenyi and a total number of more than two hundred participants. Uganda Martyrs Primary School Mbarara represented Mbarara District, St. Mukasa Preparatory Seminary Mushanga represented Sheema while Parental Care Nursery and Primary School Bushenyi, Kyanyakatura Primary School and Little Stars Primary School Kizinda represented Bushenyi District.
Participants are given numbers on registration; these numbers determine the criteria and order that guide on how participants follow each other. During the course of the competition, participants have the freedom to ask for the meaning, alternative pronunciation and origin of the word thrown to them by the adjudicator before going on spell.
Qualifying to the next round, one must score at least 5/10. The competition attracted six rounds to determine the representatives of Western Region at National level.
The competition was organized in two categories; Junior and Senior Category. The Junior category is for pupils from P.1 to P.3 while senior category is for pupils from P.4 to P.7.
The best five spellers from Junior category qualified automatically to represent their region at the national level with the best three walking away with trophies, certificates and medals.
Parental Care Nursery and Primary School Bushenyi stood out after it’s spellers; Kebirungi Lisa Pearl, Ikiriza Onan, Abaho Valour scooped Gold, Bronze and Silver medals respectively.

In the Senior category, the top ten winners automatically qualify to represent their region at the national level. Out of ten, Parental Care staged an outstanding contest by producing eight. This means that Parental Care Nursery and Primary School Bushenyi will be having a total of twelve pupils representing Western Region at the National Enjuba Spelling Bee competitions late this year.
From Parental Care Nursery and Primary School Bushenyi, Atuhaire Tricia, Ainamatsiko Mary Dorita and Owamatsiko Andrea emerged the best spellers of the senior category scooping Gold, Bronze and Silver medals respectively.

The Rector, St. Mukasa Preparatory Seminary Mushanga, Rev. Fr. Allan Gumisiriza who also was the Chief Guest of the day appreciated the spellers, the panel of judges, and everyone for the job well done. He appreciated the fact that his own spellers have been challenged remarking that this will encourage them to work much better.
”It’s not all about winning but rather about what you gain through learning from every step taken”. He said.
He also appreciated the St. Mukasa Preparatory Seminary community for accepting to host the event.
Patrons walked away with certificates of recognition while every speller walked aways with a certificate of participation.

Important to note, Atuhaire Tricia the Regional Spelling Bee champion of 2025 will be representing Africa in Czech Republic at the Inter Continental Spelling Bee competitions in November of this year.
