BUSHENYI ISHAKA MUNICIPALITY PRIMARY SCHOOLS’ MDD COMPETITIONS SHOWCASES TALENT AS PARENTAL CARE NURSERY AND PRIMARY SCHOOL BUSHENYI IS DECLARED WINNER.
As away of discovering different talents from school going children, the ministry of education and sports has always planned for activities that sharpen learners brains beyond classroom work.
These activities range from Music Dance and Drama(MDD), Athletics, Football, et cetera.
Following this arrangement, Bushenyi Ishaka Municipality conducted MDD competitions on 30th July, 2026 and were hosted at Bushenyi Town School.
The competition attracted six participants from across the whole Municipality that included Parental Care Nursery and Primary School Bushenyi, St. Kagwa Primary School, Ishaka Preparatory School, Katungu Primary School, Kyeitembe Model Day and Boarding Primary School and Patience Primary School Kashenyi.
Participating schools competed in items like, creative dance, traditional dance, story telling, poetry, sight singing and sight reading, folk song among others.
The competition that is sponsored by Tooke aims at promoting and creating awareness about the three Tooke components of Nutrition, Food Security and Economic Empowerment as a core foundational theme alongside climate adaptation and health.
The 2026 primary schools’ Music, Dance, and Drama (MDD) syllabus incorporates specific national and nutritional milestones, prominently featuring the three Tooke initiatives of nutrition and wealth, environment, health and safety.
Nutrition and Wealth: Promoting Tooke for nutrition, food security, and economic empowerment.
Environment: Climate adaptation and resilience through school greening.
Health and Safety: Ending HIV/AIDS by 2030 alongside water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) programs.
The MDD chairperson for Bushenyi Ishaka Municipality who also is the chairperson for Omukuri region and the Headteacher, Rwatukwire Primary School expressed his happiness with the number of schools that managed to participate saying that such a gesture exposes different talents possessed by learners.
Municipal Inspector of Schools Ms. Kyomugisha Susan appreciated the creativity showcased during different items and promised that the competition will be always conducted as an annual event.
The Chief guest Hon. Deborah Mugimba; the Minister for Social Services, Bushenyi Ishaka Municipality appreciated and expressed the happiness on how the schools actively took part in the event.
To the schools that didn’t participate, she appealed to them to always consider exposing the talents of the learners first saying that such events are good for the growth of their brains.
The Chief adjudicator, Mr. Mugira Nelson appreciated the discipline throughout the day from participants.
Its at this moment that Parental Care Nursery and Primary School Bushenyi were declared winners after obtaining 1131 as the highest score compared to other participating schools. Ishaka Preparatory School scored a total of 864 marks and were declared the first runners up.
According to the organizers, the first two schools will represent the Municipality at the region.
Regional Competitions will take place between 4th August to 21st August 2026 while National Final Festival will take place from 23rd August to 30th August 2026 at Bishop Willis Core Primary Teacher’s College in Iganga.
