PARENTAL CARE NURSERY AND PRIMARY SCHOOL TO REPRESENT OMUKURI REGION AT NATIONAL PRIMARY SCHOOLS’ MDD COMPETITIONS 2026.

Yesterday, 13th August, 2026 marked the climax of Omukuri Region Primary Schools’ MDD competitions 2026. The competition that was held at Mitooma Central Primary School in Mitooma District attracted six school from the region.

Omukuri region is comprised of seven (7) administrative districts of Bushenyi, Rubirizi, Sheema, Mitooma, Buhweju, Bushenyi-Ishaka Municipality and Sheema Municipality.

The region is named “Omukuri” after the traditional Ankole/Bakiga-style side-blown flute used prominently in local heritage performances like the Ekitaguriro dance.

The journey to the nationals started after emerging Municipal winners.

Schools participated in items such as story telling, drama, solo, creative dance, sight singing and sight reading, Western pieces, poems, original composition, traditional folk song, Instrumental composition and folk dance.

The regional coordinator for MDD Ms. Ruth Asiimwe who also is the Senior Inspector of Schools for Bushenyi District observed and noted with regret the failure of some school/Districts to participate even when they were supposed to be present noting that such acts block learners opportunities and deny them exposure. She appreciated the host inspector for being welcoming to everyone.

Ms. Asiimwe appealed to parents to always support the talents of their children noting that not everyone will end in the office. Talents should be held with prestige. She noted. She took a serious note of the ministry directive of allowing children to participate only when they have their parents’ consent. She also appealed to choir leaders to always keep time to allow the functions be finished on time.

The host inspector of schools Ms. Atwiine Angella who is also the Mitooma District Inspector of Schools in charge of MDD appreciated parents, schools that have participated and choir teachers and trainers for the zeal. She also appreciated the pupils for entertaining the day irrespective of their age saying that the day has been successful because of them.

Ms. Atwiine remarked that each learner and school will be presented with a certificate of recognition and participation respectively.

In her final remarks, she said that Omukuri Region will be represented by 5 choirs at the national competitions slated for 23rd to 30th August 2026 at Bishop Willis Core Primary Teachers’ College in Iganga hence appealing to schools to put in more efforts if they are to get more national awards.

The Chief adjudicator Mr. Luyima asked the audience to appreciate the participants on his behalf noting that the day has been successful because of them. He appreciated the trainers for choosing to use mostly young pupils saying that this acts guarantees future strong choirs. He reminded schools that reporting for nationals is 23rd August 2026 and the competition will run up to 30th. He concludes his communication by introduce his panel of four judges.

As the day came to closure, positions were declared as per the performance scores for each participant.
Ishaka Preparatory School from Bushenyi Ishaka Municipality scored 826 marks obtaining the 6th position, Kyabuharambo P/S from Sheema District scored 848 marks claiming the 5th position, the hosts Mitooma Central Primary School from Mitooma District claimed the 4th position after scoring 945 in total marks, Kanengyero Primary School from Sheema District claimed the 3rd position after scoring 957 marks while Parental Care Nursery and Primary School Bushenyi from Bushenyi Ishaka Municipality came in the 2nd position after scoring 1143 marks as St. Maria Goretti Kitabi Girls’ from Bushenyi District were declared winners after scoring 1174 marks.

At the function, Mzee Nyansio Ndyahikaki was recognized as the first person to play Adungu in Kitabi Parish.

This year’s Tooke sponsored competitions will be focused on the three components of Environment, Nutrition and wealth and safety and health.

Under nutrition and wealth, the campaign aims at promoting Tooke for nutrition, food security, and economic empowerment while on environment, the campaign will promote climate adaptation and resilience through school greening. For ‎health and safety, the campaign aims at ending HIV/AIDS by 2030 alongside water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) programs.
